The idea "film in film" has here its roots: The grandson of an old man who is cared for by a hypocritical woman is to be disinherited because he has chosen the dishonorable profession of acting. His hypocritical nurse and housekeeper ensnares him, poisons him with bad thoughts and even goes down criminal paths in order to become his sole heir. The grandson sees through her machinations, disguises himself as a traveling cinema projectionist and, through cunning and charm, manages to show Molière's comedy Tartüffe from 1664 to the two of them in the form of a silent film in order to open his grandfather's eyes.
