Vampyr - the Dream of Allan Grey (Vampyr - der Traum des Allan Grey)

[film, Carl Theoder Dreyer, Germany 1932]

duration: 85'

The story of a wayfarer who turns up in a village that is under the spell of a female vampire: light and shadow distribute themselves as does light of a full moon with passing clouds; people appear to know each other, yet meet one another as strangers. In addition, one gets the creeping feeling that there is still someone else there, peering into the scenery from somewhere else.

Dreyer filmed VAMPYR as a sound-film; nevertheless, sound and image exist self-sufficient of one another.
