Through a cunning trick, the devilish Scapinelli steals the mirror reflection of the student Balduin. Couched in the stylistic tradition of Faust tales, Stellan Rye develops an extended graveyard sequence and ghostly apparitions of Balduin’s disembodied mirror reflection into an early 20th-century filmic vision of horror.
